Gala Gab and Rockin’ Docs
Fund A Cure is the opportunity for gala patrons to change the lives of people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). These 100% tax-deductible contributions will drive research toward therapies to improve their lives in the near term and, one day, lead to a cure. We will join together at the Breakthrough T1D One Promise Gala: Racing To The Cure to make a difference for the millions of children and adults who live with diabetes every day.
Here’s how it works:
- During the live auction, the auctioneer will call out various contribution levels in descending order.
- When you hear the level(s) at which you wish to support the Fund A Cure, please raise your bid card and hold it in the air until the auctioneer calls out your number.
- Once all contributors’ numbers have been recorded, the Fund A Cure portion of the evening will come to a close.
- Guests whose employers provide matching gifts may double their contribution by sharing the matching gift paperwork with the Breakthrough T1D staff either before or after the gala. Breakthrough T1D will submit all paperwork on your behalf.
- For more information about how you can participate in Fund A Cure, please call the Breakthrough T1D office at 610-664-9255.
- With your support, history will record diabetes as the first non-infectious chronic disease to be eradicated. Thank you for helping make this dream come true!
Every dollar makes a difference in the lives of people with T1D!
You don’t have to wait for the gala OR even be in the room.
The Breakthrough T1D Join Me program was created so that EVERYONE can participate in the amazing Fund A Cure program. Join Me is a personal fundraising page. Click YOUR Gala’s logo to support Fund A Cure with the Join Me Program.
Allentown One Promise Gala
Fund A Cure Speaker:Kailin Rumfield
Fourty-six years ago, a small group of parents incapable of accepting a future with diabetes founded Breakthrough T1D. In 1970, these parents made a promise to their children … a promise to raise money and then invest it wisely in research. And to this day, their hopes and dreams are unwavering, as Breakthrough T1D has awarded more than $1.8 billion to diabetes research.
At the Breakthrough T1D One Promise Gala on April 30, 2016 there will be a moment when the room is stilled and the story of hope unfolds. . . We will call it Fund A Cure. This year we are pleased to announce that Kailin Rumfield will be sharing her story of hope and life with T1D. Kailin, a CRNP at Lehigh Valley Pediatric Endocrinology group, has over 8 years of experience managing pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes but her experience does not stop there. Kailin, herself, has lived with T1D for over 25 years. She was diagnosed at the age of 7 and found two years later her mother, Sharon, was diagnosed as well. Ms. Rumfield will share her story of trials, tribulations and hope as she continues to live with this lifelong chronic illness. Her fear is with her daughters increased risk of developing diabetes that we will not see a cure soon enough. Her research focus has changed from improving treatments and advanced technologies to needing a cure, and she believes that Fund A Cure is the most important step to helping us get there.

ROCKIN’ DOCS
Rockin’ Docs for Diabetes Cure presents its 6th annual benefit concert/fundraising event, to be held on Saturday, April 16 at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, PA. The event is open to fans of all ages. All profits will benefit Breakthrough T1D. Last year’s concert featured four established local bands consisting of multiple doctor-musicians from several large hospital centers in the Philadelphia area including: Abington Memorial Hospital, Aria Health, Christiana Hospital, Cooper University Hospital, Holy Redeemer Hospital, Princeton Health Care, RWJ Hamilton Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, Virtua Health, Wills Eye Hospital, and Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. We are excited to have Dan Reed, the on-air host of the XPN Afternoon Show, as our emcee this year.
General admission tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased at World Cafe Live.
Our past Rockin Docs concerts have been a great success. Last year we raised about $55,000. Since conception, we have received extensive media coverage with features in the Inquirer, Local Living magazine, Main Line magazine, the Jewish Exponent, on WMGK and WBEN FM radio, and band appearances on CBS TV and ABC TV. We have also received autographed donations as auction items from the likes of Van Halen, Carlos Santana, Neil Young, and Sheryl Crow to name a few.
Rockin’ Docs was created in 2010 by Kenneth Einhorn M.D., Jeremy Jaffe M.D., and Nancy Wolfson (all of whom are parents of children with type 1 diabetes). While attending a Breakthrough T1D fundraiser, Kenneth and Jeremy discussed how they could contribute to finding a cure. It turned out that both men were physicians and drummers in bands. Together, Kenneth and Jeremy decided to use their musical talents along with Nancy’s (Jeremy Wife) business knowledge to create an event to raise funds for T1D research called Rockin’ Docs. They developed this event with this goal in mind…raise funds for T1D research so that one day, no family would have to deal with the anxiety of learning a loved one has developed diabetes or deal with the burden of fighting this disease themselves.
