Congratulations to Nathan Reilly of the Breakthrough T1D Eastern PA family!

Nathan graduated from Hatboro-Horsham High School this week! He was very involved in many high school activities, including Warwick Wildcats Club Ice Hockey, Hatboro-Horsham Hatters High School Ice Hockey, Student Council, Class Advisory Board, Special Olympics volunteer, National Honor Society, and National Science Honor Society. Nathan has also been an instructor for several ongoing Learn to Play Ice Hockey clinics.

Nathan has been very involved with Breakthrough T1D since he was little. The family started their own Breakthrough T1D One Walk team a year after he was diagnosed, and he has been the team captain for “Nathan’s Cure Shooters” for the last several years. He has attended Government Day for several years and has been a Youth Ambassador at the Breakthrough T1D One Promise Gala.

Throughout the summer and upcoming year, Nathan will be working at Wintersport and Bucks County Ice Sports Center as a Zamboni driver, an ice guard, etc. He was accepted at Penn State Main Campus as a computer engineering major but will be deferring so he can work. He’ll be taking classes at Montgomery County Community College, playing ice hockey for the Warwick Wildcats, and hopefully training his own diabetic alert dog!

Diagnosed when he was less than a year old, Nathan offers this advice for teens dealing with type 1 diabetes: “When it comes to diabetes in high school, I took advantage of spending a lot of time with the nurses and getting to know them when I was there. They were very friendly, and I would never hesitate to talk to them about anything.”

Thank you, Nathan, for being such an amazing Breakthrough T1D supporter. We are so proud of you!
