Committed to the Cure Cape Cod Gala Committee

The Committed to the Cure Cape Cod Gala is a summer event organized and hosted by parents and grandparents of children with type 1 diabetes (T1D).  The committee is a group of volunteers from the Cape who are dedicated to raising awareness and funds for T1D research in hopes a cure will be found within the not too distant future.

This event was started in 2005 by the Youlden family in memory of their daughter, Lauren.  Since then, volunteers including Mary Jane Conary, Joanne Crossen, Jeannie Dombrowski, Jane Harvey, Shelley Redstone, Adrienne Tanashian, and Laurie Young have worked tirelessly to support Breakthrough T1D and other diabetes organizations through the gala, which has raised more than $700,000 for T1D research to date.  The committee relies on their personal stories to help others connect to the cause: Mary Jane’s granddaughter, Joanne’s son, Jeannie’s daughter, and Adrienne’s two grandchildren all have T1D.

According to Adrienne, “Those with a personal connection to T1D know how difficult it is to watch their children, grandchildren and loved ones deal with this debilitating challenge in their young lives.  We know insulin is not a cure, but merely life support until the joyful day when there will be a cure.”
