Gerald Powderly and Adriana Bauzá, 2017 Gala Honorees

When Adriana Bauzá and Gerald Powderly’s oldest daughter Ceci was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the summer of 2005 they knew they would need resources to help her any way they could. So it was not surprising that once they discovered Breakthrough T1D, Nani and Gerry became fully immersed in the organization’s mission and embraced all of Breakthrough T1D’s volunteer roles from leadership to fundraising to advocacy.

Gerry served on the New England Chapter Board of Directors for six years, two of which as president. As a Breakthrough T1D ambassador, Gerry established strategic connections between the New England Chapter and local corporations including his own employer, Deloitte. Nani is actively engaged with Breakthrough T1D’s Gala and Outreach committees. She regularly organizes outreach caregiver events and can always be counted on to passionately support newly diagnosed families through Bag of Hope deliveries.

Gerry, Nani and Ceci have also run many miles through events such as the Boston Marathon, Falmouth Road Race and Cohasset Triathlon to support Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes research. Nani and Gerry truly embody all that makes Breakthrough T1D special and successful. We are delighted to honor their unwavering dedication to bringing support, better treatments and ultimately a cure to Ceci and all those living with type 1 diabetes around the world.
