Meet our 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race Team and help us cheer them on as they lace up their sneakers on Sunday, August 16 and run towards creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). Learn more about some of the members of Team Breakthrough T1D below!
Breakthrough T1D is proud to be an official partner of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race Numbers for Nonprofits program. The Numbers for Nonprofits Program is presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund.
Hayley Carron | Hopedale, MA
My motivation for the race is knowing that every day someone I love battles type 1 diabetes and it is so important for us to continue to fundraise for research to find a cure.
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and T1D: My partner is a type 1 diabetic and has been for over 20 years. His family had worked for many years fundraising for JDRF through AJs Avengers, and the Falmouth Road Race was an opportunity for me to get involved!
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: No, 4th year
- What are you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: I am excited to help support Breakthrough T1D, meet some of my other teammates and cannot wait for all the energy in Falmouth on race day!
- What are you most nervous about: Weather!
- Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: Yes, country music always.
Jessica Holmes | Ashland, MA
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you” – shoutout to Burn Boot Camp Metrowest for the constant challenge in my workout routine but also for helping me mentally prepare to do the hard things!
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes: My brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes seven years ago at the age of 24 – as a nurse in Boston I understood the seriousness of his diagnosis but watching him live every day with it has allowed a deeper understanding for my patients.
- How did you get into running: I was looking for a new challenge last summer and after cheering on some nurse friends previously in Falmouth, I knew training for the FRR was the best way to jump in!
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: Second!
- What are you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: The atmosphere of the weekend, and sharing it with my friends & family
- What are you most nervous about: The final hill of the course! Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: Lately I’ve been into podcasts while running but for music I love 90’s and early 2000’s hip-hop & pop!
Arianna McGovern | Braintree, MA
“Keep showing up, even when it’s hard. You never know who you’re inspiring or what difference you’re making.”
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes: My connection to T1D is through my dad, who has been living with T1D since he was very young. Watching him manage the daily challenges of this disease has given me a deep appreciation for his strength and resilience. Supporting Breakthrough T1D and running the Falmouth Road Race is my way of honoring him and helping move us closer to a future without T1D.
- How did you get into running: I got into running because it’s one of my favorite ways to unwind. I can put my headphones on, clear my mind, and just go. For me, it’s the same feeling some people get from going for a drive. It’s my time to disconnect, reset, and enjoy being in the moment.
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: This will be my second Falmouth Road Race with Breakthrough T1D.
- What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: What I look forward to most is the incredible atmosphere. Hearing people cheer and yell my name along the course gives me such a boost and makes me want to keep pushing harder.
- What are you most nervous about: If there’s one thing I’m a little nervous about, it’s the heat. It’s not so much nerves as it is knowing how challenging the weather can be. The heat definitely adds another level of difficulty, but it also makes crossing the finish line that much more rewarding.
- Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: I was going to last year but I ended up shutting it off pretty early into the race. The atmosphere is so fun and the spectators yelling your name was my favorite part!
- Is there anything else you would like to share: I feel so lucky to be part of this team again this year! I was definitely bummed when I found out I wasn’t selected at first, so when I was offered a spot a few months later, it made the opportunity that much sweeter. I can’t wait to run and support such an incredible cause!
Danielle McLeod | Dunstable, MA
If it were easy, everyone would do it!
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes: My 8 year old daughter, Mila, lives with T1D, and our family experiences the challenges of this disease every day. Breakthrough T1D was there for us with support, advocacy opportunities and endless community when Mila was diagnosed at five. I’m running for the third year in a row, to support the incredible research and advocacy Breakthrough T1D provides and to help move us closer to a future where no family has to face T1D.
- How did you get into running: I’ve been running since high school, and it’s been a part of my life ever since. After graduating college, I completed several marathons, countless half marathons and 5Ks, and even had the opportunity to coach a high school cross-country team.
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: This will be my 10th Falmouth Road Race!
- What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: I’m most looking forward to running alongside my cousins, seeing my daughters cheering me on throughout the course, and celebrating at the finish line with my friends and family…especially making our annual stop at the Alighieri house!
- What are you most nervous about: The heat!
- Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: I do not listen to music, I plan on chatting with my cousins, Eryn and Natalie, and enjoying the views!
Emily Moreno | Weymouth, MA
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes: My daughter Sophie, was diagnosed with T1D in December 2023 at the age of six years old. Team Sophie also includes Sophie’s aunt, Christina, and grandfather, Jim. When Sophie was first diagnosed we were provided with Breakthrough T1D’s name as a resource and highly encouraged to request our “welcome” package that included Rufus the bear. To this day she still has Rufus, and the package itself was a big bright spot in our lives during a fairly difficult period of adjusting to life as a family managing type 1 diabetes.
- How did you get into running: Christina and I ran track in high school. While we focused mostly on sprinting, we were excited to try a longer distance with Breakthrough T1D.
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: No, this is my second time and Christina and Jim’s third time.
- What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: We are really looking forward to the crowds cheering! Onlookers are always so encouraging, and it’s always fun to see others impacted by T1D along the route, including our fellow Breakthroughers.
- What are you most nervous about: The hills and weather! While we usually hope for sun during the summer, a cloud cover on August 16th would be nice!
- Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: We all have somewhat different tastes in music, so it’s hard to say. Our dad usually runs without music, though.
Kathryn Percy | Marblehead, MA
“There’s always gonna be another mountain / I’m always gonna wanna make it move / Always gonna be an uphill battle / Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose / Ain’t about how fast I get there / Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side / It’s the climb” – Miley Cyrus
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes: I have had T1D for 17 years now and began fundraising for Breakthrough T1D in Fall 2009 following my diagnosis. My mom created a walk team in honor of me called “Kitty’s Kool Kats” which went on to be a top fundraising team for many years. As I got older I wanted to be more involved with Breakthrough T1D on my own and challenged myself to run the Falmouth Road Race as a part of the team.
- How did you get into running: I got into running by getting back into fundraising for Breakthrough T1D!
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: This will be my second time running the Falmouth Road Race.
- What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: I am most looking forward to seeing what diabetes advancements our fundraising efforts will contribute to! I am also looking forward to being in such a fun environment again, alongside my family and friends.
- What are you most nervous about: I am most nervous about having a low blood sugar during the run.
- Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: Yes I run with music! Although last year I only ran with one headphone on because the crowd was even better to listen to. I listen to a little bit of everything along the way, but like to finish with Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Will Shepherd | East Falmouth, MA
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes: My cousin, Wes Ware, was diagnosed with T1D at 16 months old, but has never allowed that to dictate the joy with which he lives his life. Wes, now 3.5 years old and a great big brother to his sister Violet, brings so much happiness to everyone he meets. Running this race for Breakthrough T1D to support Wes, and all those with T1D, is something I look forward to doing every Summer!
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: No, 3rd time!
- What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: I am looking forward to all the energy that the spectators bring throughout the race and seeing all the different causes people run for. The support from friends and family, and all the spectators is a very unique and special feeling. It is a special day!
- Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: I do make a new playlist every year to get me through the race. I like to mix up the genres, but it has to be upbeat music to keep me going!
Megan White | Foxborough, MA
My finish line is a world without type 1 diabetes. Every training run and every mile on race day represents hope. Hope for easier management, hope for improved technology, and hope that one day there will be a world without type 1 diabetes.
- What is your connection to Breakthrough T1D and type 1 diabetes: I am running FRR for my daughter Elizabeth, who was diagnosed with T1D at just five years old. Now age 8, Elizabeth navigates the daily challenges of T1D with incredible strength and resilience from insulin injections and CGM changes to the constant monitoring of blood sugars. Being involved with Breakthrough T1D has given our family hope and connected us with a powerful community of families who understand the highs and lows of T1D.
- How did you get into running: I fell in love with running in 2024 when I was training for the Boston Marathon as a member of team JDRF.
- Is this your first time running the Falmouth Road Race: 3rd FRR
- What you are most looking forward to at the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race: Seeing Elizabeth cheer me on during the race. Her pancreas may have quit on her, but I won’t!
- What are you most nervous about: Getting to the bus on time.
- Do you run with music? If so, what do you listen to: No music, I love the crowd!
- Is there anything else you would like to share: I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Breakthrough T1D’s team!
