Day 1 – Meet Jaclyn

in

Life with T1D has been a roller coaster for the past 6 years. As a T1D, there are plenty of challenges that test your strength emotionally. Some days are exhausting because I have to test myself 20 times or change my site 4 times. One major challenge that I had faced was the decision as to whether or not I should go away to college. Of course, I chose not to go away because of my diabetes. At first I felt like I was missing out, but by staying home I was able to volunteer more of my time with Breakthrough T1D.

In March of 2013, I was given the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C. with a fellow Government Relations volunteer. We thanked our local representatives for signing on to help move the artificial pancreas further in the FDA. This was by far my favorite experience being involved with Breakthrough T1D. I have met Jeffrey Brewer (CEO & President of Breakthrough T1D), Cynthia Rice (Vice President, Advocacy Breakthrough T1D), Peter King, Carolyn McCarthy, and tons of T1D’s just like me from all over the USA. I have learned so much from the technology updates, and hearing feedback from trial patients testing out the “artificial pancreas.” I am beyond thankful for being able to have that experience and to always feel welcomed by my local Breakthrough T1D chapter.
