Day 11 – Meet Madison

in

In my five years of having diabetes, my biggest challenge has been with sports.  Having to sit out of field hockey while I’m having a low blood sugar is the absolute worst.  All I want to do is play!  But sometimes, diabetes gets in the way.  Constantly having referees asking me questions about whether or not I can play can get a bit old, too.  However, my Varsity coach has been amazing in understanding the disease.  Breakthrough T1D taught me how to explain to people exactly what diabetes is and how it really isn’t that scary!  It motivates me to let everyone know all about the disease, whether it be coaches, teachers, peers, etc.  Without Breakthrough T1D I wouldn’t be as confident playing sports and having to explain it to every new person I meet.  Breakthrough T1D changed my life, and every other diabetic’s life, for the better and I wouldn’t be the field hockey player I am today without them.
