Day 16 – Meet Marisa
Hi. My name is Marisa. I’m 16 years old and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 11 months old. For me this means that as a very young child I wasn’t able to eat whenever all the other kids would. Since I was diagnosed with diabetes, I have had to stick my fingers over 43,800 times to do blood glucose tests and give myself over 10,000 insulin injections. In the first grade, I was put on the pump. Did this make things easier, in some ways yes. But for over 365 days a year and 24 hours a day, I have been attached to this pump. Technology has definitely made managing my diabetes easier in the last 15 years, but Breakthrough T1D gives me hope that one day I will be diabetes free. Free from needles, meters, pumps……… just free.
