Day 18 – Meet Samantha

in

I am 21-years-old and I remember everything about my early childhood. What I wore to my 3rd birthday. When I went to my first Broadway show. I even remember who I sat next to on the bus my first day of middle school. I also remember December 22, 2001, the day I went to the hospital.

“Why me? I have T1D,” I wondered. Medically, no one can answer that.  I say, “It is because I can handle it!” T1D does not control my life. I control my life.  Yes, I have to test my blood glucose levels 5, 6 or 7 times a day. It is what I need to do to stay healthy and live a long life without any complications.

I would love a cure today, but research into complications and prevention are the areas that I envision Breakthrough T1D helping me the most in the near future.
