Day 6 – Julia
in Awareness

My name is Julia. I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 7 months old. I wear an insulin pump and a CGM. I have been a part of Breakthrough T1D since I was diagnosed. I get involved in Breakthrough T1D One Walk with my team “Julia’s Journeymen”. I go to diabetes camp in the summer and enjoy making friends and learning new things. I love camping, riding my bike, and having fun – diabetes doesn’t stop me!
Diabetes does come with challenges though. There are times my friends and sister get to have candy and extra foods that I can’t if my sugar is high. I love snacks and it makes me upset when I can’t have what they can. When my sugar is high or low I have trouble reading and get frustrated doing my work. It makes me cry and get upset. I don’t like feeling that way. Sometimes I tell my mom I hate diabetes. I say I wish I didn’t have diabetes. My mom says she wishes the same thing and if she could take it away from me she would. I don’t want anyone to have diabetes.
