Day 8 – Daniel

in

My name is Daniel and I was diagnosed with T1D on March 9, 2015, a little before my 13th birthday. Although the road has been very difficult for me, I have used this experience to help make me a better person. Before I was diagnosed, I did not realize the impact T1D could have on someone’s life. I was unaware of the constant monitoring of blood sugar, the counting of carbs and the frequent doctor appointments. This disease can make it difficult to be spontaneous with meals and physical activity. Things I had once taken for granted. I now realize how difficult it can be to live with this disease and have empathy for those that share this disease. However, this does not mean you cannot live life to the fullest. After my diagnosis, I decided to face T1D head on. I created my own Breakthrough T1D One Walk team and was able to raise over $8,000 to help find a cure for T1D. I hope that with community support, and people that are determined like me, we can wipe out T1D in future years. I believe that putting forth your effort in a positive way gives positive results. I have confidence that T1D can be cured and others will not have to face the struggles that many kids and adults, including myself, have had to endure.
