Day 19 – Mia

in

My name is Mia and I am 9 years old. On Nov. 1, 2014 my life was changed.

What I would like everyone to know about type 1 diabetes is that the pump doesn’t monitor my blood sugar (it just provides insulin for me live). Monitoring my blood sugar is a job my family and I do 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I prick my finger over 10 times a day to monitor my blood sugar. It is a hard job for a 9 year old. I am even woken up in the middle of the night when I am low to drink or eat something. There have been scary times where I was low in the middle of the night.  After waking up I then need to go to school and learn, which is hard at times.

Diabetes isn’t who I am it’s just a part of me. I love life. I am known for my smile wherever I go. I love basketball, soccer and camp. I love fashion and designing new outfits.

My family and friends are so supportive. I have the best twin brother who is always there for me. I don’t let diabetes stop me. I continue to be my extremely happy self.

I wish for a cure. Please consider making a donation in honor of myself and all the others with type 1 diabetes. Breakthrough T1D really needs your support to help find a cure.

Please consider making a Fund A Cure donation in honor of Mia and others living with T1D by clicking here.
