Organizational Highlights
As mentioned in Part 1 of our 2019 Mission Update Recap, FY18 was a banner year for fundraising by directly and indirectly securing $362.5 million toward T1D research initiatives.
- Volunteers and donors helped raise $227M in FY18 – a 10-year high
- Advocacy secured $150M in government funding for a total of $2.8B in 21 years.
In addition, Breakthrough T1D continues to play a leading role in the newly created Diabetes Disaster Response Coalition. In partnership with many other diabetes organizations, we provided rapid-response communications and support during Hurricane Florence, Tropical Storm Gordon, Hurricane Michael, and the California Wildfires.
We have also built positive Breakthrough T1D media coverage. During National Diabetes Month, we secured a prime spot on the Today Show and in the New York Times. Two national radio tours with interviews on Breakthrough T1D research and advocacy aired on more than 2,000 stations across the country, including NBC News, CBS News and Sirius XM.
