Ava Boldi helps “kick T1D!”

Meet T1D Champion, Ava Boldi!

Ava Boldi was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at 5 years old and is a recent graduate of Connetquot High School. Living with T1D, Ava has overcome many challenges which have inspired her to get involved in the fight for a cure by becoming an advocate for the T1D community.

In that spirit, Ava organized a soccer tournament at Connetquot High School to help turn type one into type NONE. With help from the Connetquot Girls Soccer team, the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, and many other organizations, the tournament brought together over 20 teams to compete against each other to “kick T1D.” The tournament was a success, raising nearly $4,500 in support of life-changing T1D research!

Ava has been involved with Breakthrough T1D for many years. Recently Ava shared her experiences as an athlete with T1D on a Long Island radio station during a diabetes awareness campaign, has served as a Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador, and has been a Teen Leader during the virtual Teens Taking on T1D program to provide support to her peers.

In the fall, Ava will continue her studies at American International College, where she will continue to play soccer and pursue a degree in Nursing. Best of luck in your next chapter Ava, and thank you for being a T1D Champion!

“Living with T1D is one of the biggest struggles I’ve ever faced. A lot of people don’t understand how hard it is to manage, especially while playing sports or in school, but I have all my friends and family who support me.”- Ava Boldi
