Peabody Leader in Education
in General
Congratulations are in order to Pam Frederich!
14 years ago as the nurse responsible for a middle and elementary school Pam had 11 children with T1D. She saw there was a need for these students to be a support to each other and formed a group to meet during study hall once per week. As the children left the school they still wanted to get together so meetings started taking place in the evening with family members attending. Now, this group meets monthly (during the school year) with speakers and 100 families on the mailing list.
Yesterday she received a Peabody Leaders in Education Award for her work and commitment to the diabetes community. Sanda identified this opportunity and we had one of Pam’s original Diabetic Corner students nominate her. The award was given to her yesterday at the school (and a check for $1,000). She is the 3rd nurse in the history of this program to receive this award.
Leader in Education Award recipients will be honored at an awards gala after this school year ends, where one will be named Educator of the Year and will receive $5,000.
We are so humbled by everything she has done for the diabetes community and I know you will join me in wishing Pam well in this next stage of the competition.
