PRESS RELEASE
DETROIT — Athletes from around the country will have a unique opportunity to gain an exciting racing experience at the Detroit Triathlon on August 16, 2014 while supporting Breakthrough T1D.
Streamline Events, which stages the well-known Cohasset Triathlon (Cohasset, Mass.), Breakthrough T1D’s largest third party event in the country, in partnership with Epic Racing (Ann Arbor, Mich.), will stage the Detroit Triathlon. Race weekend will include several events for athletes of all abilities and ages, including a USAT U25 Elite Development Race (athletes 25 & under), an Age Group Draft Legal division (26 & older), a Youth F1 Race (athletes 12-16) and an Age Group Non Draft Race (for athletes of all ages and ability).
This is the first event format of its kind to descend in the Midwest. Bill Burnett, managing director of Streamline Events, said, “Belle Isle offers an incredible venue for this type of event. We are ready to provide an exceptional racing experience for our athletes.”
In its partnership with Breakthrough T1D, the event is proud to support Breakthrough T1D’s mission in finding a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D). T1D is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. T1D strikes adults and children suddenly and can cause devastating complications such as kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and non-traumatic amputations. The cause is not entirely understood, but scientists believe genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved, though onset is not caused by a particular diet or lifestyle. There is no method of prevention for T1D.
Interested athletes and supporters should go to www.detroittri.com for more information and to learn how to get involved.
