Breakthrough T1D Back to School Bash

School can be difficult, but for a child with type 1 diabetes, it can be even more challenging. To support a child’s experience in school, Breakthrough T1D presents its Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 22, 2015 to help “educate the educator” in understanding the important role he or she plays in the day-to-day care of a student with diabetes. Parents also will gain a better understanding of the important role they play in having the correct documents and supplies needed to aid in their child’s diabetes management.
Presented by a Certified Diabetes Educator, school personnel and parents will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the issues facing diabetes management from kindergarten through college. Information will be available about 504 plans, educational tool kits, tips on “low boxes” and storage of supplies. Issues about safe extra-curricular activities, field trips, lock-downs and other emergencies also will be addressed. Hear from the experts about new products and technology in our vendor fair.
“As a parent whose child is living with this disease it is vitally important to have a good foundation to start the school year off right. Our goal is to prepare parents, students and the school as much as possible – so the student with type 1 can manage his or her health in a safe and supportive environment,” said Grant Beard, president of the Board of Directors for Breakthrough T1D Metro Detroit/Southeast Michigan.
