Breakthrough T1D Open House-Artificial Pancreas

On November 12, 2016, the Breakthrough T1D Metro Detroit/Southeast Michigan Chapter hosted an Open House at Wayne County Community College on the Artificial Pancreas Project (APP). Over 600 people listened to Dr. Jennifer Sherr, MD, PhD; Yale University School of Medicine,  discuss this exciting research area, both as an investigator in the clinical trial and as a patient participant.

Dr. Sherr spoke at length how the APP started over a dozen years ago, and the ground-breaking announcement of FDA approval on September 28, 2016 of the first hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery system in the world. As Derek Rapp, Breakthrough T1D President and CEO stated: “After years of laying the ground work, this life-changing breakthrough is a true testament to the reason Breakthrough T1D exists, which is to accelerate ways to cure, prevent, and treat this disease. It marks a major accomplishment in one of our highest priority research areas.”
