Team GCP at the Amelia Island Ride Finish Line
We’re off to a phenomenal start in our 2017 Ride to Cure Diabetes Season! This year, our Chapter and local Ride Coach will guide 47 riders through local training rides, bike maintenance workshops, and social events throughout the DMV. An awe-inspiring 31 of those riders are headed to Saratoga Springs to take on rolling hills and enjoy the fall foliage, while 11 riders will enjoy a relaxing beach/ride vacation in Amelia Island.

“I ride for my daughter, Meg, diagnosed eight years ago at age 15,” said Ride team member Chris Kelly, “I’m inspired by Meg and by my fellow Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter riders, who are really my support group. 2017 will be my sixth Ride to Cure, and I’ve learned so much about myself and what I can accomplish on the road to finding a cure for T1D. I’m honored to train with such great people.”
We have five beautiful destinations ride across the country (in sequential order) – LaCrosse, WI; Loveland, CO; Saratoga Springs, NY; Amelia Island, FL; Tucson, AZ – and will have representation at most of these locations. Our Chapter’s fearless Coach, James Grosser, will lead our team through the Ride season to prepare them for any destination or distance they wish! “I’ve always loved cycling as a hobby,” said Grosser, “but since I became involved with Breakthrough T1D, I’ve found a real cycling community. I’ve gotten so much out of riding to support Breakthrough T1D that devoting my time to coaching Breakthrough T1D riders is the least I can do to give back. As the GCP Velo Coach, my mission is to help every rider to finish their goal distance at the Ride to Cure with a smile and a desire to come back for more.”
