2017 Mission Update & Chapter Award Winners
On June 17, 2017, the Breakthrough T1D Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter presented the 2017 Volunteer Awards, formally recognized its retiring Board Members for the time and effort that they dedicated to Breakthrough T1D, and elected our new incoming Board Members.
Executive Director Bill Parsons gave an impassioned presentation on the State of the Foundation and made the case that the GCP Chapter is the strongest it has been in its storied history in providing for its T1D community.
“What is special now as opposed to five years ago? We are at the leading edge of a true Golden Age for translation of T1D research, where an increasing number of the learnings from the past 47 years are going to be commercialized into tangible deliverables that will make life progressively easier, simpler and safer for people with T1D. It will never be harder to live with T1D than it is today. It only gets easier from here,” said Parsons.
For the fiscal year of 2017, the Greater Chesapeake & Potomac Chapter volunteers and staff together raised over $7 million for T1D research! Thank you to all our of our amazing volunteers, and congratulations to all retiring and new Board Members.
