Tell Us About Yourself:

My family and I relocated to Alexandria, Virginia at the end of last summer from Columbia, South Carolina. I am originally from Alexandria, so I was thrilled to get back home and be around my family. My husband Will and I have three girls who keep us busy with sports and activities. You can always find us on either softball fields or basketball courts cheering them on. Our family is big on sports and that includes my love of all things Gamecock! I am a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina and enjoy going to any and all games that our schedule allows.

Describe your history with type 1 and relationship with Breakthrough T1D:

T1D became a reality to me when I met my brother-in-law nearly 20 years ago. Rhett was the first person I had met with type 1. The more I grew to know and love him, the more I began to understand the impact T1D had on his daily life. Although my relationship with Breakthrough T1D is a new one, it is one that I am proud of. I feel honored to come to work each day and to have joined a team whose mission it is to find a cure for this disease.

What would you say to encourage someone who does not have a direct T1D connection to volunteer with the chapter?

I would say that if you are looking to volunteer for an organization where you make a difference, Breakthrough T1D should be that organization. The staff works tirelessly but couldn’t do it without the support of the volunteers. The volunteers and families that work with Breakthrough T1D to raise money and awareness to fight T1D are truly inspiring and will keep you coming back to see how you can help.

What are you most excited about with your new job at Breakthrough T1D?

I am happy to be back home and working for an organization that allows me to do what I love each and every day while helping Rhett and so many like him living with T1D. Knowing that each day we are one step closer to type 1 becoming type none, makes me excited and honored to come to work each day.
