Breakthrough T1D One Walk, Twin Cities 2022 Recap
in Fundraising
Our 2022 One Walkers proved that they are willing to show up, come rain or shine! For our first year back in-person we had an incredible turnout, despite the threat of inclement weather. The Breakthrough T1D One Walk, Twin Cities took place outside of the Mall of America on April 30, 2022. Over 2,500 individuals attended the event to help us celebrate 30 years of walking to make type one, type none. This year we had 400 teams who helped us raise almost $980,000.
Here are some exciting examples of research and legislative successes your donations have helped fund:
- Preventative drugs that can delay the onset of T1D by nearly 3 years.
- Cell-modifying therapies where beta cells are delivered into the body to restore insulin independence. (The first patient to receive treatment from one of these studies is now fully insulin independent!)
- Improved technologies like the Omnipod 5 and extended-wear infusion sets and CGMs.
- Smart-insulin (insulin that automatically reacts to real-time changes in blood sugar).
- Affordable insulin through The Civica Insulin Project (no more than $30/vial, available 2024).
- Congress’ passing of a $450 million commitment to fund diabetes research.
Our 2023 One Walk will officially be announced early this fall. We are so thankful for all of you who are a part of our One Walk family and we can’t wait to be back together again in 2023. We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our amazing sponsors: C.H. Robinson, Truvia, Mall of America, Prime Therapeutics, HyVee, Mortenson, TGK Automotive, KSTP, M Health Fairview, and Walgreens.
