Violet’s Peanut Butter Sandwiches at the 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes

“In March 2013, our two year old daughter Violet was shockingly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  At the time of diagnosis, our son was just three months old.  This diagnosis has forever changed our family.  In April, we were graciously invited to attend the Breakthrough T1D Gala and from that point on, we had to get involved.  In July, we learned about an opportunity to raise funds and Walk for a Cure alongside the Breakthrough T1D.  We asked Violet what her team should be called and her response, without lag time, was Peanut Butter Sandwiches!  As walk day approached, we rallied friends, family, and our social media connections to grow our team and surpass our fundraising goal.  The warm September morning the walk took place was absolutely perfect!  Violet’s Peanut Butter Sandwiches arrived in full force to run and walk alongside our T1D heroine, Violet!  Violet noticed many insulin pumps and people getting checked and, for once, this seemed to be the norm.  We walked away from that day with our hearts full in many ways.  First and foremost, we were overcome by the generosity of all of our donors.  We also felt hopeful.  As we walked to the car, for the first time since Violet’s diagnosis, I felt like we were going to figure this all out.  Watch out for Violet’s Peanut Butter Sandwiches next year!  Our fundraising goal will be even more aggressive and our team will be even stronger!  We can’t wait to come together to fight type 1 diabetes.”
