100 Miles, $1,000,000, and a Lifetime of Memories
in Fundraising
The 2022 Saratoga Springs Breakthrough T1D Ride to Cure Diabetes took place on September 10 in beautiful upstate New York. This weekend was the first weekend since 2019 that Breakthrough T1D Ride was able to host an in-person ride in Saratoga Springs, which is a Ride community favorite. Everyone was so excited to be back together once again – especially our team from the Mountain West Chapter!
John Riordan; Paige Norton; Tom and Annette Kissinger; and Chris Eaton all woke up bright and early on September 10 to celebrate themselves, each other, their T1D champions, and the continuing work that Breakthrough T1D does to improve lives and cure T1D by completing 100 miles through the gorgeous forested valley of the Adirondack Mountains. Our chapter’s very own Coach Tom Kissinger placed in the top 10 fundraisers of the event, raising over $28,000 to support T1D research.
Overall, all riders from across all Breakthrough T1D chapters came together to raise over ONE MILLION DOLLARS to support Breakthrough T1D in this event alone! We are so proud of all our participants who traveled all the way to New York to come together and celebrate.
Mackenzie Turner, the Mountain West Chapter’s Senior Development Coordinator, had the opportunity to join our team in Saratoga Springs. Of the weekend, she writes: “My favorite part of the weekend was seeing everyone come together for one big celebration, no matter how their T1D and Breakthrough T1D story began. It was heartwarming to see new friends being made, old friends reuniting and community being built. I was once told ‘Community is where we go to practice love’ – and my experience in Saratoga Springs confirmed that the Breakthrough T1D and T1D community is love. It is support. It is friendship. It is the very best of the world in one place and one weekend.”
