2nd Annual Kearney Walk TRIPLES last year’s total!
Sunday, April 14th was the perfect day at Yanney Park in Kearney, Nebraska. More than 25 teams, over 400 walkers and $21,000 plus dollars were raised to support Breakthrough T1D’s research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
Last year, the UNK College of Diabetes Network Students (CDN) wanted to hold a Breakthrough T1D Walk for Kearney and surrounding communities. The first Breakthrough T1D | CDN Walk, teams and students raised over $7,000! The CDN Students wanted to set the bar higher for their 2nd year and had a goal of $15,000. They achieved and surpassed their goal by dollars raised, awareness in the community and getting more T1D families in the area involved! They hope events like this will help create bonds in the community.
“We get to connect with other people who might feel as scared as I was when I was younger and people that don’t have anyone else to talk to about it,” said Stacie Post, president of the College Diabetes Network. “I think creating friendships and bond where we can work through this together. Diabetes doesn’t just impact us, it impacts our family, our friends and everything we do every day.”
Thank you to all who came out and made it the best day ever!
