Over 350 guests attended the 21st Annual Breakthrough T1D Dream Gala – A View to a Cure on Saturday, March 30th at Embassy Suites-Lincoln where a $329,000 was raised to fund research towards better treating, preventing, and ultimately curing type 1 diabetes (T1D). Guests came together united for a cause and as a result of their generosity, children and adults living with T1D will have access to new, life changing technologies that will make managing the disease easier and safer for them, and their loved ones.

Dream Gala guests experienced a night like no other as the Embassy Suites ballroom was transformed into a sleek and captivating soiree with a hosted martini bar, a silent auction filled with one-of-a-kind items, and a gourmet dual-entree dinner.  Gina Sherwood-Klein from B107.3 served as the emcee for the night which also included a fabulous live auction.  Highlights involved a luxury 5 night stay at the iconic Dorchester Hotel in London, a five-course private chef dinner for twelve, and tickets along with hotel stay to see Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman performance in Chicago!

Hornung-Scherr Family

An inspiring Fund A Cure program concluded the evening with the story of the Hornung-Scherr Family.  Joe and Heidi Hornung-Scherr’s son Sawyer was diagnosed with T1D in 2011.  Over the past eight years, through Breakthrough T1D-funded research, the Hornung-Scherr family has witnessed firsthand the impact of advances in treatment that keep those impacted by T1D healthier and safer while decreasing the daily burden of the disease. These advances, as well as those on the horizon, would not be possible without the generosity of those in our community.  We are grateful to those who continue moving us closer to a world without T1D as well as to the Hornung-Scherr family for sharing their story of progress and hope.

The Lincoln and Greater Nebraska Chapter staff and board of Directors sincerely appreciate all the people who made the 21st Anniversary Dream Gala a huge success, including each and every guest, auction donor, and volunteer. We would like to especially thank our 2019 Presenting Partner High Plains Enterprises. You have given families across Nebraska the tools, hope, and resources they need to make them feel supported and backed by our caring community!
