WHY HOLD A KIDS WALK AT YOUR SCHOOL?
There are so many benefits!
- EDUCATION: Our interactive program teaches students about type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the importance of giving back to your community.
- DIFFERENCE MAKER AWARDS: All students can earn a certificate when they raise $15 online! If your school participates in our Awards program, they can also earn fun gifts when they raise $40 or more. It’s our way of saying thank you for a job well done!
- MONEY FOR YOUR SCHOOL: 10% of the total amount raised for Breakthrough T1D can be awarded back to the school to use on equipment, books, field trips, or anything else your school may need.
- THANK YOU BANNER: As a token of our appreciation, your school will receive a silver, gold, or diamond star banner for raising $1,000, $5,000, or $10,000 for Breakthrough T1D. Hang this where everyone can see and feel proud that they were able to help Breakthrough T1D create a world without T1D!
HOW IT WORKS—SIX EASY STEPS
- Register your school online at kidswalk.jdrf.org.
- Choose two dates, approximately two weeks apart, at anytime during the school year to participate.
- On the first date, kick-off your school’s fundraising! Breakthrough T1D provides a video and tools to teach students about type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the importance of a healthy diet and exercise, as well as safe and fun ways to raise money for agreat cause.
- After the kick-off, students will have until the second date to fundraise by collecting contributions and “selling” Breakthrough T1D paper sneakers to friends and family for donations. With help from parents, students are encouraged to register and fundraise online.
- On the second date, students submit the funds they’ve raised at a celebratory Walk or event held on your school’s campus.
- Wrap up and celebrate! Approximately 4-6 weeks after Walk Day your school will receive the 10% appreciation check as well as the thank you banner and any Difference Maker Awards earned!
