Meet Jackie Berliner: Walk Family Team Coach

In this series you’ll meet our dedicated Family Team coaches, all of whom are volunteers driven by one, unified goal: to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

The role of a Breakthrough T1D One Walk Family Team volunteer coach is to provide stewardship, motivation and cultivation to connect families to Breakthrough T1D’s mission. Our coaches work with the Family Team Chair to make calls to One Walk family teams to thank them, cheer them on and help answer any questions about One Walk.

You’ll find our coaches at pre-walk events and on Walk Day at our five One Walk locations throughout New Jersey.

Name: Jackie Berlin

Town: Colts Neck, NJ

How long have you been involved with One Walk and/or Breakthrough T1D? 2018 will be our 6th year participating

Who is your T1D Hero? My daughter Lindsay has had T1D for 6 years and has never complained

Favorite coaching/connecting moment this year? Meeting everyone at the Kickoff [at Branchburg Sport Complex]

What do you love about Walk Day? All the support and knowing that you are not alone caring for type 1 diabetes

Favorite piece of advice for a family/individual new to One Walk or Breakthrough T1D: It is a lot of fun. You feel so special, loved and support. It is the most special day seeing and meeting other people that go through what you go through every day makes you feel not alone.

Special note: Jackie and her daughter Lindsay will be walking on Team WHATEVER at One Walk, Jersey Shore at Avon-by-the-Sea this weekend!

You’ll see Lindsay on stage singing our National Anthem at the Opening Ceremony.
