TypeOneNation Summit FAQs

From funding innovative research to advocating for government action to providing a support structure for our community, no other organization does more to fight type 1 diabetes (T1D) than Breakthrough T1D.  One way Breakthrough T1D supports our community is providing educational and networking opportunities for the T1D community.

What is the TypeOneNation Summit?
TypeOneNation Summit is an educational and networking opportunity for the T1D community. It brings together T1D experts to share their knowledge on the latest treatments, breakthroughs in research, and the psycho-social aspects of living (and thriving) with T1D.

When and where is the 2020 TypeOneNation Summit?
This year, our chapter is hosting two TypeOneNation Summit events on March 7, 2020. Both events are held at Embassy Suites during different times.

Is parking free?
Yes, parking is free at the Embassy Suites. There is plenty of parking in the front and back of the building.

What breakout sessions are offered at TypeOneNation Summit?
We have a robust agenda planned for both of our events. You can see the complete list of breakout sessions on the event website.

Do I need to select my breakout session during registration?
Yes. If you attend our morning programming geared toward children, you will select your breakout sessions during registration. This ensures we can prepare for the audience size and secure appropriate space.

For adults living with T1D, you will not select breakout sessions. All adult programming will be held in one room. Learn more about the topics and speakers by clicking here.

Can my children attend TypeOneNation Summit?
During the morning program (from 8 am – 3 pm), we will provide programming for children ages 5 to 13 in our Kids Korner. Children under 5 are invited to attend but will need to stay with their parents during the program.

During the evening program for adults living with T1D, there will not be child care or programming for children.

Will there be volunteers to help my child manage their T1D?
Yes. There will be volunteers in the Kids Korner (from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.) to support your child in managing their T1D throughout the day. They will help treat lows if they arise, these volunteers will NOT deliver insulin to any child.

Parents/caregivers and their child/children will have lunch together (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.).  Breakthrough T1D will not be held responsible for blood sugar levels & insulin dosages. There will be medical professionals on site in case of emergencies.

What can my teen do at the Summit?
Teens, ages 14-19, will have their own programming this year. Teens may register for either the Teen Talk sessions or select from the full list of breakout sessions. See the breakout session overviews for more information on the Teen Talk sessions. Breakthrough T1D does not offer supervision or oversight of teenagers aged 14-19 who attend the Summit.

Will there be carb counts for food provided at the Summits?
Yes. We will offer estimated carb counts for all food provided.
