Taking T1D to College

in ,

Sending a child off to college is an emotional time for any caregiver, but for those whose child has T1D, it may be the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do. Feelings of pride and hope are mixed with fear and anxiety. You want to foster independence yet are expected to let go in a whole new way.

While these thoughts may be keeping you up at night, your T1D is most likely experiencing their own set of complex emotions: nervous about starting at a new school, being away from home, balancing classes, new friends, and managing T1D.

Know that Breakthrough T1D is here for you! Parents and high school students are encouraged to join us for a virtual session called “Taking T1D to College” on January 11, 2022 from 7 to 9 p.m. We will share available resources for successfully managing the challenging transition to independence at college.

We recommend students and caregivers each register separately and log in from different devices as there will be breakout rooms for each group. We will come together for a group session and Q&A. The event is free, but registration is required HERE.

“Taking T1D to College” is offered in partnership with Atlantic Health System and the College Diabetes Network at The College of New Jersey.
