The New Jersey Metro & Rockland County Chapter of Breakthrough T1D is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Chapter Board Members: Scott Fishbone and Sumita Singh!

Scott Fishbone

As Vice President of Development in New York and New Jersey for AvalonBay Communities, Inc., Scott has responsibility for multifamily and mixed-use development including site selection, land acquisitions, entitlements, design, construction and lease-up. In his time at AvalonBay, Scott has overseen the successful completion of over 2,500 apartment homes representing a total investment of over $800 million.

Prior to joining AvalonBay, Scott was a principal in Atkins Realty Group, L.L.C., which developed multifamily residential, mixed-use and medical office properties throughout New Jersey and in a senior capacity at Advance Realty Group and Advance Residential Communities. Scott’s experience also includes positions in real estate structured finance investing and as a Senior Consultant with Ernst & Young in their E&Y Kenneth Leventhal Real Estate Group.

Scott is currently a member of the Planning Board for the Borough of North Caldwell. Scott has previously served as an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Columbia University teaching Real Estate Finance in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and is a member of the Board of Visitors for the School of Architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Scott received a M.B.A from New York University Stern School of Business and a B.A. from Emory University.

Scott’s involvement with Breakthrough T1D goes back to October of 1969, when he was diagnosed with T1D. Soon thereafter, around 1972, Carol Lurie convinced his parents to found the Connecticut chapter of what was then called JDF. His family’s involvement grew once again when his nephew Harris was diagnosed with T1D in 2001 and his sister and brother-in-law became involved in the New England Chapter and later on the IBOD. Scott previously served on our Chapter board, on the advocacy team, and co-chaired the JPA golf-outing for several years. He lives in North Caldwell with his wife Betsy and their three children Lucas, Alex and Kate (and their bulldog Rosie).
