Fundraise for a World without T1D – Your Way
in Fundraising
Breakthrough T1D Your Way lets you put your time, talent and creativity to work to help create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). You name it. We support you. Whether it’s through a special occasion, athletic event, memorial, or your own unique fundraising campaign, we give you the tools and tips you need to raise money—your way—for T1D research. Making life with T1D safer and healthier, until we find a cure, is only possible with support from people like you.
Check out how members of our NorCal community are joining the fight and making a difference in their own unique ways:
The Tierney Family held their 13th Annual Wiffle Ball Tournament (Wiffle for a Cure) on June 19. The family is motivated by children Finn (14) and Rowen (11) who both live with T1D. They say, “Although Finn and Ro have had this disease for the majority of their lives now, it never gets any easier. They are mature beyond their years managing type 1 diabetes. Their perseverance and resiliency are truly inspiring.” The tournament raised more than $25,000 for Breakthrough T1D and T1D research, and over the years, this fun and lively event has brought in more than $100,000!
Cynthia Zhan, a Senior from Irvington High School, held an online pay-what-you-can concert on March 13. She says, “Growing up with a younger sister who has been battling type 1 diabetes for nearly 10 years, I was inspired to take initiative, adopting an accessible online format for this benefit concert.” The concert featured performances from several young musicians and dancers. The concert was a hit and raised $140 for Breakthrough T1D and T1D research.
The Azeveda Family – Vanessa, Beth, Matt + Zachary – launched their 2nd annual Breakthrough T1D “Fun-D-Raiser” in honor of Vanessa to help celebrate her 1 year “Pump Party” Anniversary, having had a successful first year with her new OmniPod insulin pump. The family says, “While we are grateful for the technology available to us to help fight this disease, living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope…our family is fundraising for Breakthrough T1D because we believe in their vision of a world without T1D.” This Fund-D-Raiser collected $2,335 for Breakthrough T1D and T1D research.
Blake Mosher decided to take his love for nature and long-distance trail running and turn it into a “Fund the Cure” opportunity. To motivate people to donate to his cause, he ran 46 miles around New York’s Letchworth State Park in one day – a big challenge for anyone, especially while managing T1D. He says, “I hope to inspire others to live their lives unconstrained. Type 1 diabetes, ‘may change your habits and perspective, but will never change who you are,’ and I am an adventure seeker.” Blake conquered the trail and raised $5,720.
