Children’s Congress Alumni – Where Are They Now?

The Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress will convene in Washington D.C. in July 2025!

We caught up with several past Children’s Congress Delegates who represented the state of California and asked them what they learned from their experience, how it has had a positive impact on their lives, and why they think kids with  type 1 diabetes (T1D) should apply. Read more.

From September 4 through November 24, 2024, youth with T1D will have the opportunity to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime experience to engage in leadership and character-building programming, and to meet with Federal decision makers to advocate for continued research, and policies that promote affordability, choice, and coverage. School preparedness requires paperwork, special planning, and many conversations with teachers, school nurses, and other students.

The Strengthening Collective Resources for Encouraging Education Needed (SCREEN) for Type 1 Diabetes Act

The Strengthening Collective Resources for Encouraging Education Needed (SCREEN) for Type 1 Diabetes Act will allow more Americans to reap the benefits of early detection and to avoid the complications that too many face at diagnosis. Please tell your Members of Congress to support this bill today and urge those in your networks to do the same at  www.breakthroughT1D.org/SCREEN.

This bipartisan, bicameral piece of legislation was introduced by our key T1D champions on Capitol Hill: Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Susan Collins (R-ME), and Reps. John Joyce (R-PA) and Kim Schrier (D-WA). Original co-sponsors include Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL).

Learn about T1D Clinical Trials

For a treatment, drug, or device to make it into the hands of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D), it must first complete a vital step—a clinical trial.

Currently, there are over 300 clinical trials underway to prevent, cure, and treat T1D and its complications. Enrolling in these clinical trials as quickly as possible is mission critical.

We’re here to make it as easy as possible for every member of this incredible community to learn more about clinical trials and consider participation.

Despite how critical clinical trials are to finding therapies to cure, prevent, and treat T1D, many are delayed due to slow enrollment, adding cost and prolonging the results. Participating in a clinical trial is a great way to contribute to a future without T1D! Learn how you can participate in a T1D Clinical Trial in Northern California.
