As a reminder, the USF Diabetes Center offers free T1D risk screenings for individuals:
-
1-45 years old with a brother, sister, child or parent with T1D
-
1-20 years old with a cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, half-sibling or grandparent with T1D
Screenings are offered through the TrialNet Pathway to Prevention study and can detect diabetes up to ten years before symptoms occur. All that is required is a simple blood test to look for diabetes-related autoantibodies. Individuals who are identified as at-risk (their test is positive for autoantibodies) qualify to be closely monitored and/or may enter a prevention study.
