2012 Dream Gala: Chelsea Johnson featured in GrandLuxe Magazine

Chelsea Johnson is a normal college junior wrapped up in campus life. Some would say, however, when it comes to juvenile diabetes she is actually the face of hope. “I feel like a movie star sometimes; I make a lot of appearances,” she said laughing. “My whole family is involved.”
Chelsea has two younger sisters and no family history of Type I diabetes or, as it’s commonly known, juvenile diabetes. She has served as a junior ambassador at the annual fundraising Gala in Dallas, attended Camp Sweeney until she was 12 and then became a counselor in training. For the past two years she has served as counselor for 4 year olds.
As a sixth grader Chelsea traveled to Washington DC as part of the Children’s Congress to address government leaders about research funding. “I wish I could have done it later so it would have meant more,” she said. “I remember we had dinner at the Belgian Embassy and the ambassador was like, ‘Oh, we can’t give you any Belgian chocolates,’ and we were like, ‘Oh, yes you can, we’ll just take more insulin!’”
Chelsea’s parents, Stacey and Dave Johnson, will receive special honors at the Dream Gala on March 31 at the Omni Dallas Hotel as long-time supporters of Breakthrough T1D. [Continue Reading]
