JDRF’s Family Walk Teams Need You!

A Letter from Fred Cunha, Family Team Committee Chair

I am honored to inform you that once again I will proudly serve as the Family Team Committee Chair for the Breakthrough T1D Greater Dallas Chapter Walk to Cure Diabetes. As you may be aware, Family Teams are the fastest growing component of the Breakthrough T1D Walk, helping to raise over $40 million a year to fund the vital research to get us all closer to a cure.

Our daughter, Elise, who will be five years old just before this year’s walk, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just two days after her first birthday. Although we still have our share of bad days, we know that events like the Walk fund the research that will allow our loved ones to live longer lives with fewer complications and ultimately lead us to a cure.

I am currently accepting volunteers to serve on the Family Team Committee. Briefly, our committee members reach out to other families via phone and email to let them know about the Walk on September 29, as well as walk-related events like the Walk Kick-Off Dinner in July and the Diabetes Connect Expo in August. (Great news: we now have a web-based tool to keep track of all communications – it’s faster and easier.)

I really need your participation and support. If you cannot serve at this time, you can still help by enlisting other committee members. Grandparents with time to share, for example, are a great resource. So, please share this letter. As our committee grows, so do the research dollars!

Thanks for all you have done, and thank you, in advance, for your continued support of Breakthrough T1D.

Sincerely,
Fred Cunha
Family Team Committee Chair
Breakthrough T1D Greater Dallas Chapter

The success of the Walk to Cure Diabetes is a true testament to the dedication of our sponsors, families, donors and volunteers who graciously contribute their time, energy and support. Can you join us?

Family Team Coaches help strengthen our Walk by:

  • Making a set of calls to a designated group of families (list estimated at 10-15 families per committee member) to help answer questions about the Walk
  • Encouraging participation in the Walk
  • Providing outreach and stewardship
  • Forming a Walk team
  • Sharing creative fundraising ideas
