No Excuses…
in General
Trust me, I get it – we all have a lot of stuff going on. I have three kids under the age of 6 and things can get a little crazy.
As the kids get older, there are more school and sports activities and less time to do other things.
Having said that, the Walk to Cure Diabetes is one morning out of the year and always on the last Saturday in September.
If you haven’t registered for the Walk on September 28, I’m not asking you to spend many hours fundraising for the next four weeks – all I’m asking you to do is register and then send an email to your friends and family letting them know that you’re walking and that you would love for them to join you (if you use social networks, you can also let your friends and family know that way as well).
My daughter, Elise, was diagnosed at 12 months, three weeks before the 2008 walk and it was an amazing experience to show up at the Walk, not knowing what to expect but feeling like we belonged as soon as we arrived.
For the last couple of years, we’ve had over 100 people walking for Team Elise and one of my favorite things is to see everyone posing for the group picture.
This will be our sixth walk and the first time (since we have been doing this) that everyone will be in one spot (Victory Plaza in Dallas) and we can’t wait to see a few thousand people walking together for one purpose – to cure type 1 diabetes.
If the thought of creating and organizing a team is overwhelming, I would suggest finding an existing team and joining them (we’ve had other kids with type 1 on Team Elise in the past).
If you have any questions or need any help, the Breakthrough T1D Greater Dallas Chapter is here to help and you can always reach out to me directly by phone, text or email, if you want.
I hope to see you on September 28!
Thanks in advance for your help.
