FAMILY TEAM SPOTLIGHT: Walking for Wynter.
Wynter was diagnosed with T1D in 2006 at the age of 16. She says, “Even though I was shocked to be diagnosed, the new realities of my everyday life weren’t as hard on me as maybe the average person who is newly diagnosed. My older brother was diagnosed with T1D five years earlier so I was pretty familiar with blood sugar testing and insulin injections.” She has participated in five Breakthrough T1D Walk events. This is her 3rd consecutive year being a team captain for the OKC Walk. The first year her team raised about $500, last year they raised $1,000 and this year they are hoping to raise $2,000. This year, for the first time, she has been hosting Team Meetings to challenge everyone on her team this year to raise a minimum of $100; and these team meetings are paying off! Her team has already raised $1,078! As part of their fundraising campaign, they will be selling paper sneakers and selling Walk of Fame partnerships. She says, “For me, as a wife, mother, and international traveler, I am SO thankful for Breakthrough T1D and the role they play in giving me a better life and avenues for a cure for my disease.”
