Meet the 37th Annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge Ambassadors. Please join them as they advocate and raise funds for Breakthrough T1D’s vision to create a world without type one diabetes.
June, Age 10
June was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 8 years old and has never let it stop her from her numerous activities including biking, martial arts, violin, dancing, and traveling with her family. Her Beat the Bridge team name is JuneBzzz and she has lead them across the finish line for 2 years now, raising more than $4,000 for Breakthrough T1D. June is excited to be an ambassador this year because she wants to spread awareness about T1D and to help connect to other diabetics and their friends, families, and supporters. To June, “Beat the Bridge means that every diabetic has a chance to see a cure one day.”
Aiden, Age 12
Aiden found out he had type 1 diabetes at the age of 8 and immediately embraced his new life change and formed Beat the Bridge team, Team Costanti, and has raised over $12,000 for Beat the Bridge in the past 4 years. Beat the Bridge is a lot of fun for him because he gets to hang out with his family and friends, while finding a cure for T1D at the same time. He can’t wait to be a Beat the Bridge Ambassador because “I want to help other diabetics get closer to a cure”. When Aiden is not training for Beat the Bridge, he’s hitting the basketball court or exploring out in the wilderness.
Just two days before Halloween, Sophia found out she had type 1 diabetes at age 9. Fast forward to present day and she is thriving, singing in choir, taking acting classes, and playing with her pets (she even has a hedgehog!). Her Beat the Bridge team is called Dia-Beat-This and Beat the Bridge means turning type one into type none! As an ambassador, she wants to let people know what it’s like to live with T1D every day. That T1D is “part of every activity I do and it will be like that my entire life unless a cure is found.” To Sophia a cure would mean she would not have to carry around her diabetes baggage (physically & mentally) and “I would enjoy not being bionic.”
Type 1 diabetes has been part of Landon’s life for just over 3 years after being diagnosed just shy of his 13th birthday. He’s a big fan of playing soccer and cheering on the Seattle Sounders. He loves spending time with his family, and joined his dad’s work Beat the Bridge team, Team Expeditors that have been involved in Beat the Bridge for many years! When talking about Beat the Bridge, Landon says, “it’s an amazing feeling to be around hundreds of people who all have at least one thing in common with you, they want to a find a cure for themselves or a loved one.” He can’t wait until a cure is found.
Join the 2019 Beat the Bridge ambassadors, Aiden, June, Sophia, and Landon at the 37th Annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge on May 19, 2019! Registration is now open at BeattheBridge.org!
