The Breakthrough T1D Ride to Cure Diabetes program had an outstanding year full of successes in 2012. We want to thank all of our Riders for their commitment, hours of training, and most importantly, dedication to fundraising for T1D Research! Our San Diego team of 20 riders surpassed its fundraising goal and more than doubled its size from last year! The hard work and success of the Ride Team was recognized at the Breakthrough T1D National Conference in November when the program received the top Ride Award for the Western Division of Breakthrough T1D.
To build on last year’s momentum, we want to make 2013 an even bigger year for our chapter team. Riders of all fitness levels are encouraged to join, as we will have two USA Cycling certified coaches available for training several months prior to the Ride. Registration for all 2013 Breakthrough T1D Ride to Cure Diabetes locations officially opens at 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 22nd, so mark your calendars! Riders have the option to travel to one of our six beautiful destination Rides, including Death Valley, Lake Tahoe, the Tour de Tucson, Burlington, VT, La Crosse, WI and our newly-added Nashville, TN Ride.
Is fitness part of your New Year’s resolution? Our coaches can help you train to complete a 35 miles ride! If you have bigger goals, you can choose a 50 mile, 75 mile or 100 mile Century ride and our coaches will help you achieve your goal!

Please note : the Death Valley Ride is limited to the first 300 registrants per Death Valley National Park regulations. This Ride is the most popular Breakthrough T1D Ride and usually sells out within a few days to a week so be sure to register as soon as registration opens on January 22nd if you are interested in this Ride.
Would you like to speak with someone who has completed the program? Please call our office at 858-597-0240 to speak with Janette Shaffer. She will provide you with additional information and connect you with our coaches or one of our San Diego Riders.
About Breakthrough T1D
Breakthrough T1D is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, Breakthrough T1D is now the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of Breakthrough T1D research is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. Breakthrough T1D collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal.
Since its founding in 1970, Breakthrough T1D has awarded more than $1.7 billion to diabetes research. Past Breakthrough T1D efforts have helped to significantly advance the care of people with this disease, and have expanded the critical scientific understanding of T1D. Breakthrough T1D will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. More than 80 percent of Breakthrough T1D’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
