My journey with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) began more than 20 years ago. I first encountered T1D through a volunteer opportunity through my banking career at the annual walk, where I dedicated several years working alongside families affected by this condition. Eventually, I was honored to join the board of directors, serving in various roles for 12 years.
Beginning in 2012, I had the privilege of representing Arkansas at Government Day in Washington, D.C. I traveled alongside fellow advocates from my state and met with our Representatives and Senators to seek their ongoing support for T1D and the Special Diabetes Program (SDP). That year, I connected with numerous parents and advocates from across the nation. Listening to their stories filled me with inspiration, as I witnessed their unwavering determination and hope. I realized I had become part of a passionate network committed to finding a cure for T1D.
Outside of supporting T1D, I am blessed to have a loving and supportive family. My husband, Stephen, and I are the proud parents of two wonderful daughters: Katelyn, who is 20 and studying at the University of Arkansas, and Audrey, who is 17 and a senior at Mount St. Mary Academy. I serve as EVP at Relyance Bank, which has been incredibly supportive of my involvement with T1D.
In 2018, Stephen and I had the great privilege of chairing the T1D gala, where we were delighted to honor William and Christi Clark.
This year, I am excited to co-chair the gala alongside my friend, Maura Beranek. Maura and I connected through our children; Katelyn and her son Alex became friends in high school, and they continue to share that bond at the UofA. My family and I feel fortunate to support John and Lesie Oden for their unwavering contributions to the T1D community, alongside the Beranek family.
