By Susan Hubley, director of community affairs, Highmark Blue Shield

Highmark Blue Shield takes great pride in contributing to the efforts of Breakthrough T1D. As an organization, we believe that it is important to support efforts to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. We are pleased to have the opportunity to continue to strengthen our bond with the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of Breakthrough T1D.

Highmark and its diversified businesses have a long history of partnering with Breakthrough T1D. Here in Central Pennsylvania, we have shown support for many of our Breakthrough T1D chapter’s events and initiatives over the years, including the Walks to Cure Diabetes, the Tee Off to Cure Diabetes golf tournament, and the annual gala. In fact, in 2014 Highmark Blue Shield was honored during the annual gala event for its longstanding support of Breakthrough T1D.

Outside of Central Pennsylvania, Highmark has been recognized by other chapters of the organization in Delaware, Erie and western Pennsylvania, demonstrating our enterprise-wide commitment to the Breakthrough T1D cause.

Our company’s leadership also plays a major role in Highmark’s efforts to support Breakthrough T1D. Sharie Young, a vice president in our Finance division, is a member of the current Breakthrough T1D board in Central Pennsylvania, serving as the treasurer and also as Gala Chair. Sharie is truly dedicated to the Breakthrough T1D mission.

Highmark Blue Shield is committed to supporting Breakthrough T1D’s goals. We greatly value our partnership, and we look forward to building on our longstanding relationship in the years to come. We are hopeful that through our support, Breakthrough T1D will be able to continue to improve the lives of people affected by T1D, accelerating the progress toward treating, preventing and curing the disease.

Highmark Blue Shield stands with Breakthrough T1D on the journey to turn Type One to Type None!
