Why I Walk: Jennifer Bauman

Jennifer Bauman graciously shared her story with us, revealing her motivation for participating in the Breakthrough T1D Walk. Alongside her family, she walks in honor of her daughter, Alledria. Discover more about Jennifer’s inspiring journey below.

Q: Tell us your story, why do you walk?

A: We walk for T1D so our 5-year-old daughter and all children with Type 1 can live in a world where they don’t have to watch sugars, count carbs, or endure endless pokes. We walk to stand beside her, to encourage her bravery as she conquers the world always shining bright (especially on a theater stage) and spreading laughter and love wherever she goes.

Q: How has T1D impacted your life?

A: Type 1 Diabetes has brought profound changes to our lives, not just for Alledria but for our entire family. It’s more than just managing sugars and carb counting—it’s about embracing a new way of life that encourages healthy choices and self-discipline. We’ve learned to savor each moment, finding joy and confidence in every step we take together. Alledria’s resilience inspires us all to face challenges head-on, and her spirit reminds us to live life to the fullest, no matter the obstacles. T1D has shaped us, but it has also brought us closer, making each day a celebration of strength, love, and unwavering support.

We encourage you to share your story to help others know they are not alone in
the fight against T1D!
