Meet Marcie Martin!

Marcie

You participated in the inaugural AT/T1 Challenge. What was your original motivation to sign up?
I have been passionate about raising awareness for Type One as well as raising funds to find a cure since I was diagnosed over ten years ago. I also have an immense love for hiking and the outdoors, so when I found out two of my favorite things were coming together I was thrilled! This event definitely struck me as a win/win.

What made you want to do the event again/what was your favorite part about the hike weekend?
Last year I met some really amazing people. Spending not just a few hours, but an entire weekend with these individuals really allowed me the time to make some awesome connections.  I definitely look forward to reuniting with them as well as meeting others with like minds who are working for the same cause.

What, in your opinion, makes this event special?
This event is special to me because I am able to pack two of my greatest passions into one outstanding weekend. I also think it is a wonderful thing to get to spend not just a few hours, but a few days, with such a great group of people. I love participating in the Breakthrough T1D One Walks, but I usually spend a couple of hours there with my family and then we go home, whereas, the AT/T1 Challenge allows us to interact and connect for a few days with inspiring people working diligently towards a wonderful cause.

Join Breakthrough T1D Georgia for the second annual AT/T1 Challenge!

The group will be hiking at Kennesaw Mountain and will meet at 9:00 am in the Visitor Center’s parking lot. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about AT/T1, meet other hikers and talk to Breakthrough T1D staff about what we are doing to fund a cure for T1D. RSVP required to attend.
