35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Sarah
in Fundraising

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give
I was diagnosed with T1D on February, 13, 2002. At the time, I was 19 years old and attending college. That same fall I formed my first Walk team and the rest is history.
Over the years, friends and family have joined my Walk team and together we have raised a total of $75,000 since that first year. Our fundraising accomplishments aside, my favorite part about the walk experience has been getting to spend time with friends and family – my team members – on Walk day. Also, one of my favorite memories is from that first Walk in 2002, when my then-friend and now-husband surprised me by showing up to Walk with my team!
My goal for the future of my Walk team is to reach the $100,000 benchmark by my 10th Walk in 2017. I believe in raising money for Breakthrough T1D’s mission because while there are many wonderful treatments for type one diabetes, it is still an incredibly difficult and dangerous disease to manage, and a cure for T1D would mean getting part of my life back. One thing I would say to those wanting to know what they can do to help raise awareness for T1D & Breakthrough T1D is to share your knowledge. Let people know what it’s really like to live with T1D.
Please consider helping Sarah reach her goal of raising over $100,000
by donating to her Breakthrough T1D One Walk team here.
