35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Priscilla

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give

When I think of a life without T1D, one word comes to mind: Freedom. I was diagnosed with T1D when I was just 2 1/2 years old in 1987. It’s amazing to see how much has changed since I was diagnosed and how far research has come in just a few short years. My first interaction with Breakthrough T1D was the Walk to Cure Diabetes when I was 10 years old. My aunt Kim took me to the walk in Washington. D.C., and I have been walking every year since then! Not only in Georgia, but in other states as well. I love the walk because I meet other people just like me who understand what I am going through and dealing with on a daily basis. I also love that the walk raises awareness and helps to educate those who may not understand what T1D is. The best way to raise awareness is to educate others! I use social media to not only raise awareness, but to fundraise for my walk team. I also write letters to my family and friends asking them to donate and join my team. I am looking forward to another awesome walk in Athens this fall!

Please consider supporting Priscilla’s fundraising efforts by donating to her Breakthrough T1D One Walk team here.
