35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Savannah

in

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) this past July 3rd in sunny San Diego. What was supposed to be a family trip, ended up being the trip that changed my life! My parents noticed something was different about with me and quickly took me to Rady Children’s Hospital. We are so thankful for the San Diego Ronald McDonald House that provided a place for my family to stay during my hospital visit and for our family in southern California who dropped everything to help us. Even though I was just diagnosed and only 7 years old, I am already checking my blood sugar all by myself! I am excited for the day that I won’t have to take insulin shots and have so many finger pricks. I am especially looking forward to the day where I can eat all the chocolate I want without having to count carbs and bolus! I am excited to be walking at the Breakthrough T1D One Walk this year with my team – Savannah’s Stars. My friends and family are walking with us! We have raised close to 9,000 so far! I want people to know that a cure for T1D would mean everything to me. I hope you will read my team page and come walk with me on October 15th.

Please consider supporting Savannah’s fundraising efforts by donating to her Breakthrough T1D One Walk team here.
