35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Taylor
in Fundraising
35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give
Hi! My name is Taylor. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes (T1D) when I was six years old. Unfortunately T1D wasn’t unfamiliar in my family – my dad was diagnosed with T1D when he was 10 years old. Since being diagnosed, my family has become very involved with Breakthrough T1D. My parents love to attend the Breakthrough T1D Hope Gala, and I have been a Gala Ambassador! My favorite Breakthrough T1D event is the Breakthrough T1D One Walk. This year will be our fourth year walking with our team – Team Docka. Our goal is to raise $15,000. Every year my mom writes a heart-felt letter to friends and family asking them to donate and come walk with us. Family and friends from school and my parents’ co-workers join us on walk day. The best part about the walk is everyone wearing our Team Docka t-shirts and coming out to support me and my dad. Last year at the walk, I was interviewed on the big screen – that was so cool! I hope I get to do that again this year. It really frustrates me when people think diabetes has to do with your blood pressure – it’s about your blood sugar! I really want people to know that it’s not my fault I have T1D. I never wanted it, but we can find a cure together. Together, we can walk. Together, we can fight. Together, we can find a cure. I hope you will help raise awareness for Breakthrough T1D and T1D with me!
