35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Bobby
in Fundraising
35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give
My family and I have been involved with Breakthrough T1D since I was diagnosed at the age of 2. We love to participate in Breakthrough T1D events year around, including the Breakthrough T1D One Walk and Hope Gala. In 2015, I was able to attend the Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress – it was an amazing experience. This year is my 8th year walking with my rock star team – Bobby’s Band! My team combined forces with Woodward Academy this year. So far, we are on track to raise over $70,000! My team raises funds several different ways – through social media, a personalized video, emails, and by selling sponsorship of my Bobby’s Band t-shirt. My favorite Walk day memory is from last year -when I cut the ribbon to start the Walk! My friends and I love getting the Chick-fil-A chicken biscuits in my tent each year. I want people to know that T1D is hard to keep up with. I don’t like having to stop playing to check my blood sugar or to take insulin. A cure for me means a new life where I don’t have to worry 24/7. I can play without stopping, and I can spend the night at a friends’ house without other parents being afraid. I encourage my friends and family to help me raise awareness by talking about T1D and Breakthrough T1D. Even wearing my Bobby’s Band t-shirt helps spread the word about T1D!
