35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Amanda

in

35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give

This year is my 10th year walking with my amazing team – Amanda’s Angels & Co.! My family and I have participated in the Breakthrough T1D One Walk and the Hope Gala since I was diagnosed with T1D 2 days after my 8th birthday. Before the Breakthrough T1D One Walk each year, we send out my story with a good old fashioned letter to about 200 people. We also use follow up e-mails and post on social media. Our fundraising is completely from the generosity of others! The best part about the Breakthrough T1D One Walk is having my friends and family support me on my favorite day of the year. Last year, many of my friends surprised me and showed up at the Walk without me knowing. It was awesome! My favorite Walk day activity is the walk itself. Walking with my friends around such a beautiful city fighting for something that means so much to me is the best part of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk. We sing songs and take lots of pictures! I want people to know that T1D can’t stop me from doing anything. I have diabetes, but diabetes will never have me! A cure for T1D means freedom. Freedom to eat what I want, freedom from needles and insulin, freedom from living with a chronic disease!

Please consider supporting Amanda’s fundraising efforts by donating to her Breakthrough T1D One Walk team here.
